Providers can easily split bills to be paid by multiple individuals assisting with a child's tuition, such as:

  • Subsidy agencies

  • Separated or divorced parents

  • Co-parents

  • Multiple family members

This allows payers to pay their own invoices separately, view only the balances they're responsible for, and makes reporting on these split transactions much cleaner.

Before you can split a payment, you'll first need to add multiple payers to a child's billing profile. Then when creating a one-time charge or billing plan you'll see a button asking if you wish to assign specific amounts to different payers:

Note: Splitting charges means payers will be able to see each other's invoices and payments within their student's profile; however, will still only be charged for invoices assigned to them.

FAQs

Can I go back and split a charge in an invoice that has already been posted?

Invoices cannot be split across multiple payers after they have been posted. If you need to increase or split a posted invoice, we recommend that you void the invoice and issue a one-time charge with the necessary corrections.

How can I split charges so two payers don't see each other's payments?

If guardians must keep their payment information separate from other payers listed on their child's profile, you will need to create separate students with separate billing profiles. These additional profiles would be strictly for billing and submitting payments.

This is harder to manage for admins, but may be a suitable option if there is a need to separate. Here's how:

  1. Create a separate student profile and call it something like "Alex Smith Dad Payment"

  2. Create another separate student for the other guardian with a similar name

  3. Add the payer as a contact to the student account and then add them as a payer on the child's billing profile

  4. Set up a billing plan or a one-off charge for each of the student profiles, only including charges for the amount that the payer owes

Can I split a bill between a subsidy agency and guardian payer?

Yes! As long as the agency is listed as a payer, you can easily split the charge between the two.
