Brightwheel makes it easy to send attendance data from your brightwheel account to the Minnesota Department of Human Services for the Great Start Compensation Support Payments Program. Providers can check in and out their students in brightwheel and we'll automatically transfer the data to Great Start.

Getting Started

In order for your data to transfer correctly, make sure the following student fields are filled in brightwheel:

  1. Each child must have a Date of Birth added.

  2. Each child must have at least one parent/guardian listed as a contact with an email address

  3. For students no longer in your program, ensure their enrollment status is moved to Graduated, Inactive or Removed to maintain accurate counts.

Once student profiles are set up, continue to complete the integration setup.

How to Set Up Your integration

  1. Log into your brightwheel account on the web

  2. Click the My School option to expand the menu and select Settings

  3. Jump to the School Info tab and locate the Integrations tile

  4. In the state agency drop-down, select MN - Great Start

  5. Enter your DHS License Number (sometimes called Certificate Number)
💡If your unsure what you license number is, it can be found here: DHS Licensing Lookup.

You’ve now successfully set up your integration! Read on to learn more about how brightwheel will automatically send enrollment and attendance data to Great Start.

How it works

After you've set up your integration, you're all set! Brightwheel will send your attendance data from brightwheel daily at 1 AM EST.

Once all attendance (check ins, check outs, and absences) have been recorded for the day, we highly recommend reviewing your Check in report to review attendance data for accuracy and to fix any missing or overlapping times.

FAQ

Why is some data not transferring to Great Start?

If you login to your Great Start Provider Hub Portal and notice an active child is missing, please check that the child has a Date of Birth and Parent contact with an email address listed on their brightwheel profile. If you are still experiencing issues, please email minnesota@mybrightwheel.com with your program name and the child that is not transferring.

How can I correct attendance records that have already been sent to Great Start?

To ensure accurate records are sent, please make any necessary corrections to the attendance records in brightwheel via the Check-In Report. Once updated, the changes will automatically be transferred to Great Start at 1 AM EST the following day.
