Providers and staff can quickly share files, pictures, and documents with students and staff via brightwheel messaging. This feature enables personalized notes with attachments, streamlining communication.

💡 To share a documents & files that are accessible to guardians from the Documents section on their child's profile, we recommend using our Shared Files feature.

Send Message Attachments as Admin

  1. Navigate to the Messaging page on the mobile app or web.

    1. In a existing thread: Select the thread and click the paper clip 📎 icon

    2. In a new message: Click the new message icon or + New Message

  2. Choose the audience: Parents (visible to all staff or just admins/managers), Individual Staff, or Entire Room(s)/Program

  3. Follow prompts to select Student(s), Staff, Rooms, and Message Type.

  4. Click + Add file to attach your file, then click Add
    💡Review Allowed File Types.

  5. Enter your message and click Send Message

ℹ️ To send message attachments to multiple staff at once, admins should use the mobile app instead of brightwheel on a web browser.

Send Message Attachments as Other Staff Roles

The process for sending message attachments varies by staff type. We recommend non-Admin staff send message attachments from the mobile app for greater feature flexibility.

  1. Navigate to the Messaging page on the mobile app or web.

    1. In a existing thread: Select the thread and click the paper clip 📎 icon

    2. In a new message: Click the new message icon on the mobile app in the top right corner. Please note: For non-admin staff, attachments cannot be sent in a new message on the web at this time.

  2. Choose the audience: Parent(s), Room Staff, or an Administrator

  3. Follow prompts to select Student(s), Rooms, and Message Type.

  4. Click + Add file to attach your file, then click Add
    💡Review Allowed File Types.

  5. Enter your message and click Send Message

ℹ️ Not seeing the option to attach a file? Confirm you have correct permissions and try sending it from the mobile app instead. The ability to add an attachment to new messages is only available on the mobile app for non-admin staff.
