If a student is out for the day sick or for another reason, you can mark them as absent. You can even log an absent record for the future if you know a student will be gone for a planned vacation for example.
Providers have two options for marking a child will be absent in the future.
On the child's Schedule - Useful if you just need a reference for Admins and Teachers to see. Schedules are not connected to attendance records.
In attendance records - Use this option if you need the absence to be included in the student's official attendance record.

Mark a child as absent for a future date
If you know a student will be absent in the future and you wish for that absence to be logged automatically and included in the child's official attendance records, you can mark them as absent for a future day.
Future absences can be logged from the Attendance page or from the Add activity picker on the mobile app.
On the app
Navigate to the student's room
Select Attendance > Tap the student(s) who will be absent
Click Absent, then select a 'Start Date' and 'End Date' in the future
Tap Add absence when finished
On the web
When logging a future absence from the web version, the student must be checked out at the time. On the app, future absences can be logged regardless of the student's current check-in status
Log in on the web
In the sidebar menu, select My School > Students or Rooms
Click Mark absent next to the student(s), then select a 'Date range' in the future
Tap Add absence when finished
💡 How it works: When you log an absence for a future date, you can view any upcoming absences as needed and make edits from the Check-in Report if the family's plans change. On the day the absence is set for, it will post as a normal attendance activity to the child's feed and the child will appear as absent for that day in the app.
View & edit upcoming absences
Providers can view upcoming absences from the student or room activity feed and on attendance related reports such as the Check-in Report.
From the student's activity feed on the app, you'll see an Upcoming activities section. On the web, you can set the date range filter at the top of the feed to Upcoming to view future absences.
To edit an upcoming absence, please do so from the Check-in Report.

Can I log check-in/outs for future dates?
You cannot add check-in/out records for future dates - they must be logged day of or retroactively. We recommend noting on a child's schedule if they will be present for staff to reference. The student should still be checked in on the day to document the attendance.
Will future absences be visible to families?
Will future absences be visible to families?
Upcoming and future absences will be visible to families from their child's feed. However, if you set the visibility to Staff only when logging the absence, it will be hidden from families.
