Track staff certifications & professional development

[For Admins & Managers] Keep track of your staff's certifications, continuing education, and training hours right from their Staff Profile.

Brightwheel makes it easy to record staff education, certifications, and professional development hours.

Courses completed through brightwheel Professional Development are automatically added to staff profiles and the Training dashboard, and reporting tools help meet state requirements. Trainings and certifications completed outside of brightwheel can also be added manually and tracked.


Education & professional development fields on staff profiles

Each staff profile includes sections for recording official education and training details. Admins and Managers can add:

Degree type

GED/High School, Associate, Bachelor’s, Master’s, Doctorate, or other

Certifications

Professional or state certifications held

ECE credits

Early Childhood Education credit hours

Infant Toddler Credits

Infant/toddler credit hours

Professional development hours

Hours completed through brightwheel Professional Development are automatically-added; courses completed outside of brightwheel can be manually uploaded.

Add staff professional development hours

With a brightwheel Professional Development subscription, trainings completed in brightwheel automatically appear on the Training dashboard. Trainings taken outside of brightwheel Professional Development must be added manually, either from the Training dashboard or from an individual staff profile.

Note: For Professional Development subscribers, we recommend entering 0 hours for manually added trainings that do not count toward a staff member’s annual requirement. This keeps approved state course hours in brightwheel separate from unapproved training hours.

From the Training dashboard (Professional Development subscribers only)

  1. Log in on the web

  2. Go to Staff & Payroll in the sidebar menu > Training

  3. Click Add training record

  4. Input training details (date, hours, CEUs, custom notes) then hit Save

From the staff profile (all providers)

  1. Log in on the web

  2. Go to Staff & Payroll in the sidebar menu

  3. Open a staff profile

  4. Click Add a training under 'Professional development hours'


Add staff training certificates

Training certificates from brightwheel Professional Development courses are automatically uploaded and available in brightwheel from the Training dashboard (Professional Development subscription required). Learn how to view certificates here.

For programs without a Professional Development subscription, or to add external certificates, Admins can upload certificates to the Attachments section of a staff profile.

💡 Tip: Add expiration dates to attachments to track renewals for certifications like CPR and First Aid.
